I have created a mash up video of all the main Assassins Creed games. I’ve been a fan of the games since I played the second one, which introduced Ezio Auditore, who was in my opinion the best Assassin to date.
The first game consisted of pretty bad graphics, repetitive extras comments and basic weaponry which made the game an effort to play due to the boredom I felt from all the above, as well as the storyline. I really wouldn’t advise playing it as it’s not really necessary, but I chose to include it in the video for the reason that it’s where the game series began.
The second game introduced a different kind of game entirely. Ezio was introduced, and with him a game with a story well worth seeing through to the end. What made Ezio so interesting is how you literally play his life from birth till the very end. You play the many years he lives, and follow his story as if you are a key part of it. Ezio stars in Assassins Creed II, Brotherhood and Revelations. It’s such a powerful trio of games, and in those games Ezio even uncovers the history of his ancestor from the first game. The story is so well thought out and the characters journey will literally bring tears to your eyes at times.
After Ezio, for me personally, things pretty much went downhill for the game series. Just to avoid confusion, the way that the naming of the game works is that for each new Assassin they give the game a new number. So the first game had the first Assassin, Altair and that game was called Assassins Creed. The second game introduced the second Assassin Ezio, that game was called Assassins Creed II, but because Ezio had three games, instead of calling those games Assassins Creed II, III and IV, they called his games Assassins Creed II, Brotherhood and Revelations. The 5th game was called Assassins Creed III as it featured the third Assassin. The same goes for the fourth game; however they have stopped that tradition for the newest upcoming Assassins Creed, which is being called Unity instead of a number.
The third game introduced Connor, otherwise known as Ratonhnhaké:ton, but we’ll just call him Connor because I have no idea how to say his name. This game is set during the American Revolution and it focuses on how the events of Connor’s life impact the outcome of the war. It also introduces the fact that one of Desmond’s ancestors turned out to be a Templar, which is the Assassin Orders all time enemy. So Desmond, Ezio, Connor and Altair all have Templar blood in their family tree. It reshapes the game and closes Desmond’s story. It certainly doesn’t have the same feel as Ezio’s story but it’s not a bad job.
I really don’t have anything good to say for the abomination of a game that is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the latest AC release. It was undoubtedly rushed and the story is absolutely nothing like what an Assassins Creed game should be. Ubisoft basically turned a game about sneaking up on your prey on land to a pirating sea adventure, where you have the opportunity to hunt whales and mindlessly force down ships to improve your reputation in the Caribbean 18th Century.
I have high hopes for Assassin’s Creed Unity. So far the only information that Ubisoft has released is that the game is to be set during the French Revolution and the Assassins name is to be Arno. The game will feature new controls including a parkour up and parkour down button.
